Wide Tie Guide
Wide ties. You have heard or ties, skinny or thin ties, but why have you never heard of wide ties. Wide ties never really took off. The fashion industry and the general public has made up their mind. The wand a thinner, sleeker design. And why shouldn't they? Thinner and normal sized ties are great, they allow perfect distribution of jacket shit and tie coverage and they you are not wearing your jacket they look almost natural. Wide ties are more for jacket wearing events. Wide ties do not look so good once you take the jacket off. However, wide ties are not completely gone. People just prefer to have an all in one tie. One that looks good with or without the jacket on. Some would argue that it looks better in both cases. However I will Let you decide. Some of it depends on body type.
When Should You Wear a Wide Tie
I would never recommend you wear a wide tie without a jacket unless you have looked in the mirror and you are darn sure you look great, or better than you would with any other sort of tie. If you want to know when is the best time to wear a wide tie, it is when you are wearing a jacket and heres why. With thinner tis you sometimes het too much shirt, sometime you don't even want to show much of the shirt underneath. With a wider tie you can get a more sophisticated look than you can with a regular one. You have to wear you jacket with the front buttoned closed a little more so you don't show too much of the tie. What you want to do here is just show the chest area and up and you will want the tie to cover more than half that area showing. Two-thirds of the area should be about right. Now one of the worst things you can do here is to wear a white tie. You do not want to end up looking like your shirt and your tie switched colors. When dressing like this your tie should be darker than your shirt by at least 3 shades unless it is the same color, so long as that color is not white. If you have to wear two shades of white go with a grey tie and white shirt so it doesn't look as if the further you go in the whiter it gets... unless you are going for that look.
Why Not the Wide Tie
If you ask me I would tell you just forget about wide ties unless you want to stand out that way. There are many other ways to stand out though. Let your personality come first. With the fashion, leave it to the trends of the time and forget the wide tie. Play it safe, blend in as far as size goes. Play with the colors or something that is more flexible. Don't forget to always dress smart. If all of this has failed to convince you that you shouldn't wear that wide tie or you are still on the fence about it, remember that this is just one guys opinion.
