Flag Tie Advice
I think flag ties are great... but only on certain occasions. I think that one of the most important things about wearing a flag tie is the person behind the tie. I mean, it's okay to wear a flag tie on holidays like the Fourth of July or Constitution Day (September 17th). Other than that it may com across wrong unless you really know what the flag stands for. If you were to say... wear a flag tie to an interview the person interviewing you may think you are sucking up or trying to play on his patriotism. However, if you are really into freedom and the constitution, by all means where it and be ready to talk about why you where the tie. If you are not ready you are not doing the flag the justice it deserves and you are more or less being cliché. That being said there is a limit in my opinion.
Flag Tie Designs
So many people where just the plain red and white striped tie meant to look like the flag waving in the wind, and that's fine if it goes with what you are wearing, but the flag is much more than a piece of great looking material. It stands for the constitution, commitment and so much more that I really think you aught to wear a tie more symbolic, like one with the Constitution on it or maybe get a tie pin for your flag tie. Something to bring the message home.
Flag Tie Time
On the Fourth of July the situation changes of course because you have set aside a day for the meaning of the flag and all the people who fought for the country it stands for. Now this is just my opinion, but i think that on the Fourth of july it is important to get back to the roots of the country and wear a tie with the original flag. This is simply because this is what the Fourth of July is about... our independence. We have other days to honor veterans of other wars and other events people like to tie in to the Fourth of July. I really think this is getting away from the message.
Other Holidays for Flag Ties
Speaking of other holidays, I think it is important to note that the Fourth of July is not the only time you should wear a flag tie. I think you can wear them on any day set aside for the people who fought for this country or any day something great or memorable happened. Even if it was a sad event, it is important to show that you back this country.
All in All
I know that patriotism can be a touchy subject and I hope I haven't put anyone off. By all means get and wear your flag tie with pride. Show your pride in your country. Just know what the flag stands for. I think if you know that you will be able to successfully determine when and what you should wear. As for the design, don't try to pass something off as the flag. I mean if your tie is just a regular striped tie, don't wear it like it is a flag tie, try to make your whole outfit patriotic then.
